SUMMARY

The study of Roberto Ampuero’s narrative work by the distinguised North-American Academy Gioconda Marún, reveals a kind of literature wich is both critical of globalitazion and, through reconstruction of the past, questions established Chilean history.

For Marún, the greater part of Ampuero’s work concerns the process of globalization within postmodernist art, an art wich is multifaceted and reflects the global chaos of a word governed by the rules of an international market.

Ampuero’s work can thus be appreciated in a new light, within a concept of time and space that is particular to globalization. Not only have geographical limits been erased, territory itself gives way to ciber space when electronics resources are woven into his detective novels. Such elements are clearly present in “Cita en el Azul Profundo” (Date in the Deep Blue) and in “Halcones de la Noche” (Night Hawks), global time and space becoming compacted through the use of internet. More over, the word processor replace the writer, making the version of events in “Los Amantes de Estocolmo” (Lovers in Stockholm) sketchy, blurring the common image of the writer as author.
