SUMMARY

Lima at the start of the 90’s. Simón Rodríguez is a civil engineer who, under the regime of Hiroyasu, finds new employment in a construction company thanks to the help of a friend from college years. The job appears to be the kind of thing that’s common for an engineer, but what initially seemed exiting (the continual and prolonged visits to villages in the Andes Mountains) turns into a nightmare, not only on account of the political climate of the country, but also because of feelings of longing for his mother Sofia and for Selva, for whom he is not able to harbor something concrete.

At the same time the Intelligence Services investigate Simón Rodríguez, whose traditionally left wing family belongs to the Prepi party, which governed the country for five years prior to Hiroyasu. Simón’s grand uncle was a key element of this party and a Unions Activist. His uncle and his father played an important role within the Prepi, both inside the parliament and the Ministry of Education, during the government of President Galván.

Montes, Simon’s boss, is forced by the Hiroyasu regime to act as informant of his employee’s activities. He decides to somehow warn Rodríguez that he should leave his job and flee as soon as possible. Simón realizes he is in danger and prepares his rather curious road to exile making sure to go unnoticed: via a student scholarship.
